A)             But THIS can be a dirty job. WE have to clean exhibit areas. Many of US work outside in rain, heat, and all sorts of other weather. WE sometimes carry heavy containers of food. And because animals eat every day, most of US work on weekends and holidays. Zoo work can also be dangerous. Wild animals can bite, kick, scratch, or spread disease. WE almost never pet the animals.

 B)            Many people like animals, but taking care of them is hard work. WE take care of wild animals in zoos and animal parks. WE feed the animals, clean their living spaces, and work to keep them healthy. WE watch the animals to see if they are sick or hurt. WE need to watch and listen carefully to notice any changes in behavior. WE write detailed notes about each animal and tell a veterinarian if there is a problem.
C)             Teaching people about animals is another of OUR tasks. WE answer people's questions and give presentations. People who like animals often like working with them. WE like getting to know the animals. WE also like helping with research. And WE like learning how to help endangered animals in the wild.

D)             Some of US give the animals objects to play with and explore. Many animals like playing with logs, sandboxes, and even water sprinklers. WE often hide food for the animals to find. Playing with food and toys helps animals stay active.Sometimes, WE train the animals to make caring for them easier. For example, WE train elephants to lift their feet so that veterinarians can check them.

3.-After Reading the text please try to discover what's the profession described on the exercise. Post your answer as a comment and discuss with your classmates.

4.- Make a drawing in which you portray the profession described above and upload it. Comment on your classmates' work.

3.- Share with your classmates on a comment below which kind of comics do you like reading and why.

A Comic Book is defined as a booklet of words and pictures integrated into a flexible and powerful printed format (Witek 1989:3). According to the definition of comics at the DC's web page, "Variously referred to as comics, comic strips and comic books, the comics format as we know it today is a unique art form and literary medium that originated in the U.S. in the late 1800s.... At its simplest, a comic is a series of words and pictures that is presented in a sequential manner to form a narrative."

Comic books are mass-produced inexpensively and quickly (Bender 1944:230).  Comic books are considered a visual piece of art in sequence (McCloud 1993:48).  Comics combines art and writing.   According to some (McCloud 1993:50; Feury), there is a comic literacy that is needed to interpret what goes on between the panels.

Comic books uses everyday language in dialogue balloons to communicate a point quickly and directly (Frank 1944:221). By using a series or sequence of pictures, a cast of characters that the audience can relate to, and lots of dialogue and text within the picture, the creators of comic books draw their readers to their creation (Lee 1971:21). Writers and Illustrators tend to use stereotypes of basic characters and clichés to express their meaning (Gerberg 1983:38).

Even though the comic book picture emphasizes the words and dialogues of the characters, it’s the relationship between the words and the pictures that says so much more (McCloud 1993:47; Faust 1971:195). Writers will use idioms, puns and slang to relate to the everyday individual. Comic Books are a form of narrative fiction and so they have a plot, characters, setting, dialogue, and symbolism.

The pictures in the comic book control the reader's interpretation of the words. The picture forces the reader to see what the writer wants him/her to see. Action lines and dialogue balloons allow the reader to hear the messages in their heads, thus inviting the reader into the make believe world of comic books.

How to Respond to a Written Invitation -- powered by ehow

Video Transcript

You have been invited to a special event that includes an invitation, so let's take a look at how should we respond to it. I am Hazely Lopez, Director of Hazely Academy of Refinement and Modeling and I'm here to talk to you about how to respond to a written invitation. You first want to start by deciding whether if you're going to attend or not attend to. If you are attending, you want to take a look at the RSVP note and that maybe either by phone that they're allowing you to do it, or if it's a written one for a wedding or something like that, you may want to use the actual card and send it to them letting them know that you will be attending. Usually, you have to also let them know many people will be attending to this event. That way the can get prepared. It's never ever appropriate to change your RSVP. If you said you're going, you have to attend. It's just how it goes. Also, if you decide to not go to the activity, then you might want to decline it with a special note, special card and of course, sending RSVP, letting them know why exactly you cannot go. Maybe not exactly, but at least something that will give them an idea and they don't feel offended. These are just some tips to let you know how can you respond to a written invitation. I am Hazely Lopez from Hazely Academy of Refinement and Modeling.

How to answer an RSVP card :

Regardless of the type of invitation, there is a formality which can be followed. RSVP is an acronym for the French phrase "répondez s'il vous plaît" or in English, "please respond." There is an elaborate history behind the invite and RSVP dating back to before electronic communication existed in order to establish credibility and reliability of manual communication. The following article will dig up a bit of this RSVP etiquette and tell you how to write a formal RSVP to an invitation.

structions

    • 1
Decide if you would like to RSVP. Is this the type of invite which you are likely to accept. In addition, is there some sort of social expectation that you will accept the invite. Once you have made this decision, you will have to politely respond in one way or the other. The RSVP is not simply to accept, but also to deny an invite.
    • 2
Check your calendar to see if you are available. If you are then you are able to move to the next step. If you are unavailable, you will need to weight the value of the outstanding appointment. For instance, "Is your orthodontist appointment more important than your sisters wedding?" In addition you should consider the possibility of moving the existing appointment to accommodate both or even moving something into the spot to give valid reason for denial.
    • 3
Be short, but polite. The invitee is no doubt preparing for the occasion and can't be bothered with questions and complications from the attendee. If you are denying the invitation, it is important to make it clear that you are 'unable' to attend and not to insinuate that you are 'unwilling.' It is important to send the RSVP even if you are not going to attend in order to give thanks for the invite.
    • 4
If you are going to attend, RSVP with a short sentence thanking them for the invite. Tell them how many people will be attending, how long your stay will be and if applicable, what you will have to eat in the case of a dinner party or a reception of some sort. It is acceptable to request special dietary needs, but be aware of the situation. It may call for you to make your own special accommodations.
    • 5
Be sure to send the RSVP as quickly as possible so that the host or hostess can make proper preparations. Don't assume that because an invite comes early that you have plenty of time to RSVP. The host or hostess may be planning a secondary invite.
